About Dr. Lissak

At the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute Eating Disorders Program, I trained in providing insight-oriented psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology for all eating disorders. I have worked with women and men of all ages who are struggling with these disorders.

I received my medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and from The New York Hospital and trained in psychiatry at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. I have worked in private practice both in Los Angeles and in New York City.

While each person with an eating disorder is very different, the symptoms are remarkably consistent and require a directed behavioral treatment plan. The first goal is to reduce the daily behaviors of the eating disorder. Initial treatment usually includes therapy oriented towards behavioral change and often medications. This first phase of treatment loosens the firm grip the disorder has on one's day-to-day life. In the second phase of treatment, it is possible to work in either individual or group psychotherapy to uncover the underlying causes of the disorder and to move towards permanent recovery.

I believe that combined treatment from one provider is often the best form of treatment. For more about my treatment philosophy, please read my letter published in the American Journal of Psychiatry.
